Flower shop 
opens under 
new management

[APRIL 3, 2000]  Flowers by Tibbs, Weddings by Crystal, at 125 Sangamon St. in Lincoln, has reopened under the management of its new owners, Steve Elkins of Lincoln and Marsha Miller of Middletown. The new owners plan to keep the former name of the business for the time being, but the flower shop will eventually become "Creative Designs and Weddings."

Bogus bomb suspect arrested

[APRIL 3, 2000]  At approximately 5:20 p.m. on Friday, March 31, the Lincoln City Police Department arrested a Lincoln man who resides at 309 South College St. The man was arrested on a warrant issued by the Logan County State’s Attorney Office for felony disorderly conduct.

[APRIL 3, 2000]  On Jan. 31, Governor George Ryan declared a suspension of the application of the death penalty in the state of Illinois. Ryan was quoted in the Feb. 1 edition of the Chicago Tribune as saying, "Until I can be sure that everyone sentenced to death in Illinois is truly guilty…no one will meet that fate." This controversial topic is the focus of a new book on the wrongful application of prison sentences 
and the death penalty in the United States.

[APRIL 3, 2000]  The Logan County Unit of the American Cancer Society cordially invites you to its third annual Relay for Life. This event celebrates the lives of those who have survived cancer and honors the memories of those who have not. Relay for Life kicks off Friday, April 14, at 8 p.m. Teams are encouraged to come out, set up camp and enjoy the evening activities.
