Letters to the Editor Supporting Bill Workman

TO THE CITIZENS OF LOGAN COUNTY

Letter to the Editor

I write this letter to give my support to Bill Workman for re-election to the office of Logan County State's Attorney.

When Bill took office, the City of Atlanta had a very large stack of unprosecuted cases left over from the previous administration. We sat down with Bill and Reviewed our pending cases. Unfortunately many cases had to be thrown out because they were so old they would have been deemed untimely by the courts. Bill went to work on the remaining cases and the remainder were soon adjudicated. Now we have no backlog of unprosecuted cases.

I have appreciated very much the way that Bill has worked with our police department. He always seeks the input of our officers. He has driven to Atlanta on many occasions to discuss a case with our officers. Bill has attended City Council Meetings and has met in Atlanta with groups of citizens on cases such as the drive by shooting incident.

Since his election Bill has established a "Victims Advocate Program" which has been very beneficial to the citizens of Logan County. Although this program offers assistance to all crime victims, it has been especially helpful for the victims of domestic violence.

Another successful effort is Logan County Teen Court. Teen Court provides a method of helping youthful offenders, ages 13 to 17, who have commiteed minor offenses get back on the right track while keeping their records clean. Offenders appear before a jury of their peers who decide the nature of the punishment. Teens also act as prosecuting and defense attorneys. When the offender successfully does the punishment decided by the Teen Court and has no further offenses for one year, the offense will not be placed on their record.

Without hesitation I was you to vote for bill Workman for State's Attorney in the Republican primary election to be held March 21st 2000.
