Volunteers will issue
parking citations

[APRIL 27, 2000]  The Lincoln Police Department, along with the Center for Independent Living, conducted its first training session April 20 for volunteers who will issue citations for handicapped parking violations. The five volunteers trained will wear an identification name badge while issuing citations. The volunteers were informed about 625 ILCS 5/11-1301.1, which states that only authorized persons with disabilities who display a special license plate or decal may park in areas designated for persons with disabilities, and about 625 ILCS 5/11-1301.3, which prohibits any motor vehicle that does not display the special license plates or decal from parking in a space that is reserved for use by a person with disabilities. This applies to both public and private property. The volunteers will begin issuing $100 ordinance violations May 1 in accordance with 625 ILCS 5/11-1301.7.
