Doris Irene Stratton

Doris Irene Stratton, 97, of Rockford, died at 1:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Courtyard Terrace Nursing Home in Rockford.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 1:30 p.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with Paul Cox officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery, Mount Pulaski.

Visitation will be one hour before the services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stratton was a homemaker.

She was born Nov. 15, 1902, at Mount Pulaski, to John and Grace (Barlow) McDonald. She married Henry Stratton on Nov. 17, 1920. He died Feb. 13, 1991.

Surviving are one son, Lewis Stratton of Chillicothe; one daughter, Carol Jean French of Cherry Valley; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Esther Beidler of Mount Pulaski.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and five sisters.

She was a member of Elm Street Christian Church in Springfield.

Donald Struening

Donald D. Struening, 70, of Lincoln died at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at his home.

Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 14, at 10:30 a.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Richard Reinwald officiating.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery in Lincoln.

Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 13, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. A Lincoln Elks service will be at 4:45 p.m.

Struening had been employed at Diane Schriber Realty, Auto Electric, 18 years at Graue Chevrolet-Buick, and at Doris & Associates Realty.

He was a veteran of the Korean War.

He was born Oct. 24, 1929, in Lincoln to David P. and Erna (Doehring) Struening. He married Ena Fay Horney in Lincoln on Dec. 3, 1950. She died in May 1969. He married Mary E. Mahan in Lincoln on Sept. 4, 1970.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Struening of Lincoln; one son, David (and Patty) Struening of Loda; three daughters, Valerie (and Robert) Coombs of Lincoln, Sonya Gravatt of Peoria and Cheryl (and Mark) Mattes of Ohio; six grandchildren, Tara and Angela Coombs of Lincoln, Nathaniel Struening of Loda, Jesse Gravatt of Peoria, and Brandon and Sean Mattes of Ohio; and one sister, Barbara Hargis of North Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ena Fay; and one brother, Vernon Struening.

He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln, a past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1756, and an exalted ruler (1980-81) of the Lincoln Elks Lodge 914.

Memorials may be made to Central Illinois Hospice or St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln.
