Holiday basketball tournament results

[DEC. 28, 2000]  Area high school basketball teams are competing in several holiday tournaments. Reports are below.

Boys

State Farm Holiday Classic

Class A at Shirk Center

Mount Pulaski vs. Tri-Valley

In a hard-fought, tight battle from start to finish, tying 41-41 in the third quarter, Mount Pulaski lost to Tri-Valley 61-57.

Scoring for Mount Pulaski: Anderson 7-2-17, DaVault 0-2-2, Davis 4-1-10, Blaum 1-0-2, Brown 9-7-26; totaling 21-12-57.

Three-point field goals were made by Anderson, Davis and Brown.

Olympia vs. Quincy Notre Dame

Olympia lost to Quincy 58-36.

Scoring for Olympia: Brand 0-1-1, Lee 3-0-6, Hollinger 3-0-9, Kendrick 2-0-4, Walker 1-0-2, Wright 1-3-5, Wise 1-2-4, Olson 2-1-5; totaling 13-7-36.

One 3-point field goal was made by Holliger.

Class AA at Horton Field House

Lincoln vs. Buffalo Grove

Lincoln trounced Buffalo Grove 69-39.

Lincoln took the lead in the first quarter and held it throughout the game.

Scoring for Lincoln were Williams 3-0-6, Alexander 10-4-26, Tungate 7-4-19, Knapp 1-0-2, Aper 1-1-3, Ashley 0-1-1, Farmer 1-3-5, Schrader 2-2-7; team totals 25-16-69.

Three-point field goals were made by Alexsander (2), Tungate and Schrader.

At Clinton Tourney

Riverton vs. Hartsburg-Emden

Riverton topped Hartsburg-Emden 58-32.

Scoring for Hartsburg-Emden: Aper 3-0-7, Leesman 4-3-11, Anderson 1-1-3, Behrends 2-2-6, Wrage 1-1-3; team totals 12-7-32.

One 3-point field goal was made by Aper.

Hartsburg-Emden vs. Clinton

Hartsburg-Emden fell to Clinton 58-50.

Scoring for Hartsburg-Emden: Aper 5-4-19, Leesman 4-2-10, Fletcher 4-0-11, Anderson 1-2-4, Jones 1-0-2, Wrage 1-2-4; team totals 16-10-50.

Three-point field goals were made by Aper (5) and Fletcher (3).

 

Girls

State Farm Holiday Classic

Class AA at Redbird Arena

Lincoln vs. Tinley Park Andrew

Lincoln battled it out, staying within four points of Andrew in the first and last quarter. The score was tied 11-11 at halftime, and Andrew held a two-point lead at the end of the third quarter. Andrew won with a final score of 27-23.

Scoring for Lincoln: Humbert 2-0-4, Ingram 1-2-5, Cook 0-2-2, Bunch 5-0-10, Oller 0-2-2; team totals 8-6-23.

One 3-point field goal was made by Ingram.

Olympia vs. Quincy

Olympia girls topped Quincy 58-53.

Scoring for Olympia: Short 4-0-8, Fraher 1-0-2, Bachman 5-1-12, Gaither 2-6-10, Gale 5-0-10, Doombos 16; team totals 23-11-58.

One 3-point field goal was made by Bachman.

Bethany Tournament

Mount Pulaski vs. Cerro Gordo

Cerro Gordo beat Mount Pulaski girls 80-40

Scoring for Mount Pulaski: Bechers 1-0-2, Clevenger 2-0-5, Sanders 4-4-12, Faith 1-4-7, Rucks 2-0-4, Cyrulik 1-0-2, Howe 0-2-2, Jason 3-0-6; team totals 14-10-40.

Illini Central girls vs. Brimfield

[DEC. 27, 2000]  Illini Central took on Brimfield for a high school girls basketball tournament game at Table Grove. Brimfield defeated Illini Central with a final score of 59-38.

Illini Central had three 3-pointers: two by Damm and one by Oney. Damm scored the most points (15) of Illini’s players.  She had five field goals and three free throws in addition to her 3-pointers. Harvey also helped her team with eight points, from three field goals and two free throws. The rest of the players’ statistics were as follows: Oney 3-0-7, Winkelman 3-1-7 and Bitner 0-1-1. Altogether the team made 14 field goals and seven free throws, for 38 points.

Brimfield made two 3-pointers: one each by Bell and Gilles. In total, Brimfield made 23 field goals, 11 free throws and 59 points.
