Drivers need to display placards
for handicapped parking

[MAY 9, 2000]  The Lincoln Police Department implemented a disabled parking enforcement volunteer program May 1. The program has received a positive response from the community. We are asking for assistance from the public to enhance our program. The volunteers have been issuing tickets to vehicles that appear to be violating the handicapped parking spaces.  Vehicle drivers who are handicapped have not been placing their handicapped cards where they are visible, with the result that these drivers receive a citation. The Lincoln Police Department would like for citizens using the handicapped placards to place them where they are visible – on the dashboard or mirror, for example – to prevent mistakes in issuing citations. The disabled parking enforcement volunteer program can continue to be successful only with the community’s cooperation.
