[OCT. 5, 2000]  It was a very hot Thursday afternoon, Aug. 17. Our aunt, Mae Furrer, had been to ALMH for pulmonary therapy and then to a hair appointment in Lincoln.

A funny thing happened

[OCT. 5, 2000]  Actually, it’s not all that funny. Illinois’ dream college football season has hit a partial derailment. Now they have a bye week to try and right the ship and avoid a total train wreck. I tried to warn those who were caught up in the early euphoria. In fact, the LDN said if the Illini somehow managed to go 8-4 again, we would just mail that in to the NCAA home office and move on to basketball. I had questions about our defense. They did play an inspired first half against Michigan, but in the Big Ten you must string two halves together! There is a great opportunity to get well against Iowa, but then the schedule stiffens in a hurry. This week the LDN does all it can do to keep the faith and to will the Illini back to...

[OCT. 5, 2000]  Lincoln High School’s men’s golf team competed in the Quincy Regional Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at the par-71 Westview Golf Course. Aaron Freesmeier qualified for the individual sectionals with an 80.

Hartsburg-Emden volleys with Illini Central

[OCT. 5, 2000]  Hartsburg-Emden High School’s girls volleyball team defeated Illini Central 15-1, 15-5. The game was at Hartsburg on Tuesday afternoon.

Lincoln College volleys with Lincoln Land

[OCT. 5, 2000]  Lincoln College’s Lady Lynx volleyball played Lincoln Land yesterday at home. Lincoln Land beat Lincoln College 15-7, 15-9, 15-9. Lynx Coach Tina Rogers-Smith said, "We actually played pretty well. We had been going backwards; however, we had a good practice Tuesday and played well tonight."

Domestic violence program and candlelight walk scheduled

[OCT. 5, 2000]  The Logan County Domestic Violence Task Force will have a candlelight walk on Thursday, Oct. 12, beginning at 7 p.m. at Washington Monroe School. Participants will walk from the school to the Logan County Courthouse, where Judge Donald Behle will speak and make introductions for the domestic violence presentations.

Meeting required for parents
of LCHS winter athletes

[OCT. 5, 2000]  All LCHS winter athletes are required to have their athletic permit card on file in the activity director’s office before they may try out or practice for any sports. All parents/guardian of all athletes must attend a mandatory meeting Monday, Oct. 16, at 6:30 p.m. in the LCHS auditorium.
