Alberta Altman

Alberta L. Altman, 80, of Lincoln died at 8:29 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Holland & Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln with the Rev. Connie Rieger officiating.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Altman worked at Stetson’s in Lincoln, was owner of the Western Hotel and Tap, and also owned the Lincoln/Logan Vending Company.

She was born Feb. 15, 1920, at Mount Pulaski to George and Bertha (Stein) Diebert. She married Floyd Altman on Jan. 15, 1951, at Grant, Miss. He died Dec. 6, 1986.

Surviving are two sons, (Joe) David Altman of Lincoln and Richard Hopp of Lincoln; four daughters, Linda Crum of Waynesville, Wanda Gower of Lincoln, Debbie Bartmann of Lincoln and Terry DuVall of Lincoln; three stepdaughters, Annie Boyer of Middletown, Judy Kindred of Lincoln and Carol Altman of Lincoln; one stepson, Richard Altman of Lincoln; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, one child, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mount Pulaski.

Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.

John Mefford

John Logan Mefford, 75, of Lincoln died at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at his residence.

Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 20, at 1:30 p.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Visitation will be Friday from noon until the service time at the funeral home.

Mefford was a laborer at Pittsburg Plate Glass Co. before his retirement.

He was born Aug. 6, 1925, at Lexington, Ky., to Mark Steven and Nancy Jane (Baker) Mefford. He married Mamie Lucille Lindsay on Nov. 29, 1946, at Brewton, Ala. She survives, in Lincoln.

Also surviving are one stepson, William H. (and Cheryl) Roy of Beason; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Mefford of Lawrenceburg, Ky., and Mark S. Mefford of Lexington, Ky.; and two sisters, Leta Berryman of Winchester, Ky., and Judith Lowery of Lexington, Ky.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a half sister.

He was a U.S. Army and Air Force veteran, serving during World War II and the Korean War.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Illinois.
