Clarence Mason

A memorial service for Clarence W. "Red" Mason, 82, of Lincoln will be at 2 p.m. this Sunday, Feb. 4, at New Holland Methodist Church, with Tim Searby officiating.

Mason died at 10:20 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Maple Ridge Care Centre, where he had resided since June 1999.

He donated his remains to medical science. Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta, was in charge of arrangements.

Mason was a carpenter. He owned and operated the Atlanta Locker several years. He also was the Kent Feed dealer in Armington many years.

Mason was born July 17, 1918, at Armington to Clinton and Lena (Powell) Mason. He married Lelia Mae Howard Aug. 12, 1939, at Mexico, Mo. He later married Peggy White Jan. 2, 1998, at Sullivan. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Sue (Larry) Hughes of East Peoria; one son, Howard (Yvonne) Mason of Miamisburg, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Beverly (Joe) Hinkle of New Holland; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Timm of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

He was a former member of the Armington Fire Department and the Oddfellows Lodge. He was a 50-year member of the Atlanta Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star, Minier. He also was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Lincoln. He was a member of the Armington Christian Church.

Dorothy Shawgo

Dorothy Louise Shawgo, 77, of Mason City died at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at her home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at the United Methodist Church in Mason City, with the Rev. Roy Nash officiating.

Burial will be at Mason City Cemetery.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City.

Mrs. Shawgo was a homemaker.

She was born April 21, 1923, in Logan County to Herman and Agnes (Wolff) Rentschler. She married Wayne Shawgo on Sept. 10, 1944, in Mason City. He survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Gary (Debbie) Shawgo of Mason City, Dale (Wanda) Shawgo of Decatur and Glenn (Brenda) Shawgo of Warrenton, Mo.; one daughter, Ellen Shawgo of Lincoln; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Ed Shawgo, and her twin brother, Donald Rentschler.

She was a member of Mason City United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

Memorials may be made to her church or hospice.


Norma Schulze

Norma Schulze, 90, of Springfield died at 7:23 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Oak Terrace Nursing Home in Springfield.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Bisch & Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen in Springfield, with the Rev. Jerene Houser officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Springfield.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

She worked for 35 years at Franklin Life.

She was born June 10, 1910, in southern Illinois to Henry and Catherine (Schrauf) Schulze.

She is survived by several cousins, including Harold Apel, Alvara Flemming and Mary Werth of Lincoln; Esther Horn of Mount Pulaski; Vernon Apel of Atlanta; Russell Schulze of Texas; and Bernice Schrauf; along with other second and third cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.

She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a current member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, both in Springfield. She was active in her bridge club and played piano.

She graduated from Trinity Lutheran School, Springfield High and Brown’s Business College.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or St. John’s Lutheran School, 2477 W. Washington in Springfield.
