Commerce Commission members:
Citizens
for Justice, Inc. is making a formal request today, by this
letter, on behalf of all citizens from Lincoln, Ill., to ask this
commission to undertake a full-scale investigation into natural
gas price increases, this season, that are totally unacceptable to
every family in Lincoln and throughout all of Illinois. (CILCO is
our provider)
Because
public utilities provide only two products and/or services, we
believe their job should be much easier than most other public
companies. Why have companies such as CILCO stopped entering into
long-term contracts with wholesale natural gas companies? This
would seem to provide for better planning for both parties.
Because
of the impact of high utility bills on each and every family
everywhere and because the current price increase is the highest
ever in anyone's memory, we are asking this commission for the
most complete investigation possible. We believe the public needs
your help to prevent any future happenings such as this in the
future.

Row resident disapproves of zoning change

Dear
editor:
How
is that the Logan County Board can favor one individual and ignore
the petition of almost 1,000 people? How is that a township board
voted against the rezoning of agriculture land to commercial, the
appeals board voted against it, and yet in one County Board
meeting, it passed? They also just recently ignored a petition of
2,000-some signatures wanting changes made.
I
thought elected officials work for the many, not for one. Guess I
was mistaken.
Listen
folks, if it happened in one township, what makes you think it
won't happen in yours?
In
regard to Mr. Mahler’s comment that we on Lazy Row would
"get used to it," well, forget it. The concrete has been
poured, the mobile home is there. With the metal tower with its
blinding flashing lights, guy wires and a brightly lit parking
lot, the pleasing country landscape is getting uglier by the
minute. What was once a wonderful view has been corrupted.
Frankly, I'll never "get used to it." I won't be
listening to the station, and I won't be voting for those who
voted for this change of my neighborhood.

Dear
editor:
The
Lincoln Kroger store has set up a program to reward all students
that make the honor roll at Lincoln Junior High School. Each
student is given a certificate for a free food item and when it is
redeemed they are entered into a drawing for a larger prize. Last
quarter each honor student received one dozen cookies, and one
lucky person won a CD player.
Annette
Hinman and Janice Greer were instrumental in setting up this
program. I would like to thank them for their efforts to get this
program up and running. It's great to see Kroger supporting the
efforts of our youth.
