Welcome to the em space, a staff writer's commentary page with observations about life experiences in Logan County and beyond. Thank you for visiting.

A Christmas hymn written more than 450 years ago portrays an angel announcing the lowly birth of Jesus and says in response, "Welcome to earth, Thou noble guest."

We traditionally convey our welcome with candles in windows, voices in song and reverence in our hearts.

This week, the em space also welcomes a guest writer, a former resident of Logan County, and invites you to take her Christmas greetings to heart.

Christmas greetings  from a guest writer

God bless you at Christmas,

The day of Christ’s birth,

When angels from heaven

Came down to the earth

To bring the good news

To the shepherds of old

That Jesus was born

As the prophets foretold.

On Christmas our praises

To God we should bring

For sending His Son,

Christ Jesus, our King.

But oft He’s forgotten,

And so Christmas Day

We celebrate sometimes

A far different way.

We’re busy with parties,

And presents and food,

And what’s most important

We’re apt to exclude.

But Christ is the reason

For Christmas, and so,

Thank God for the Savior

He sent long ago.

Make Jesus the center

Of your Christmas Day,

Adore Him, and ask Him

In your heart to stay.

Love Him and serve Him,

The Savior revere

Not only at Christmas

But all through the year.
