Jimmie Bowns

Jimmie Eugene Bowns, 68, of Lincoln died at 4:41 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at his home.

There will be no services. His body was cremated.

Bowns was a maintenance worker at Lincoln’s city garage.

He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was born Dec. 9, 1932, in Lincoln to William Franklin and Iva Myrtle (Naugle) Bowns.

Surviving are one brother, John (and Beverly) Bowns of Lincoln, and two sisters, Millie Fox of Lincoln and Mary (and Francis) Howerton of Mariposa, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lincoln.

Memorials may be made to the property fund at his church.

Ronald Caplinger

Ronald R. Caplinger, 59, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., formerly of Lincoln, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir, N.C.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lincoln.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Caplinger was a retired postal worker and a U.S. Army veteran.

He was born Dec. 22, 1941, in Lincoln to Bert R. and Genevieve (Pushala) Caplinger. He married Carol Martin in 1967 in Lincoln. He married Jennell Ifkovitz in 1981 in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. She preceded him in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Christy (and Daniel) Teague of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, Richard E. (and Phyllis) Caplinger of Lincoln; one sister, Diane (and Robert) Farmer of Lincoln; a friend and caregiver, Michael Slayton; and his "adopted family," Robert and Brenda Ritch and family of Lenoir, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Jennell.

He was a member of Elks Club and BPOE 1557.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Memorials may be made to American Liver Foundation or the donor’s choice.

Mary Starchevich

Mary Katherine Starchevich, 90, of Lincoln died at 4:50 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in the intensive care unit at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Holy Family Church in Lincoln with Father Thomas Taylor officiating.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lincoln.

There will be no visitation.

She was a nurse anesthetist. She retired from Hopedale Medical Complex in Hopedale.

She was born Oct. 19, 1910, in Lincoln to Rudolph and Anna (Vlachovich) Starchevich.

Surviving are one nephew, Richard "Dick" Starchevich of Lima, Ohio; one niece, Mrs. Robert (Linda) Sheley of Lincoln; three great-nephews; and several great-great-nephews and great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, George; and one sister, Jennie Packard. She was the last of her immediate family.

As a nurse anesthetist, she was very dedicated, took great care of her patients and took pride in them.

She enjoyed raising Westhighlander terriers for herself and for the proper buyer whom she felt would provide the best home.

Memorials may be made to Holy Family Church or the Alzheimer’s Unit at the Christian Village Nursing Home in Lincoln.

Joseph Schroth

Joseph A. Schroth, 83, of Mount Pulaski died at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mount Pulaski.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Mount Pulaski, with Father Patrick DeMeulemeester officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski. A prayer service will be at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Schroth was a retired farmer, dairy operator and basketball coach for Mount Pulaski Grade School and Chester-East Lincoln. He was a crop insurance specialist, and he owned and operated Schroth and Buckles Implement Sales in Mount Pulaski.

He was born April 21, 1917, in rural Mount Pulaski to Albert D. and Florence E. (Romer) Schroth. He married Vivian D. Buckles on Aug. 28, 1940, in Davenport, Iowa.

Surviving are his wife, of Mount Pulaski; one son, Richard J. (and Robin) Schroth of Derwood, Md.; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne Schroth of Derwood, Md.; one grandson, Andrew Schroth of Derwood, Md.; and one brother, Norman D. Schroth of Winter Park, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of Lincoln Knights of Columbus Consul 1250, Lincoln Elks Lodge 914 and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church of Mount Pulaski.

Frederick Heath

Frederick E. Heath, 67, of Lincoln died at 10:31 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at his home.

Cremation rites were accorded. There will be no services.

Heath had been a self-employed brick mason in Lafayette and Kokomo, Ind., for over 30 years and more recently the owner of Deer Creek Lakes.

He was born March 7, 1933, at Lincoln to Harley and Iola Bernice (Latham) Heath. He married Florence Flint on Aug. 13, 1952, in Arkansas. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Fred Heath Jr. of Flora, Ind., and Jerry Heath of Frankfort, Ind.; four daughters, Jean Levesque of Limerick, Maine, Diana Dicus of Jacksonville, Ind., Bobbie Jo Williams of Cleveland, Ga., and Billie Rae Claar of Kokomo, Ind.; 26 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Heath of Mount Pulaski and Harley Heath of Lincoln; and one sister, Florence Rosco of Phoenix, Ariz.

He was a Protestant.

Holland and Barry Funeral Home handled arrangements.

 


Charles Williamson

Charles Glen Williamson, 82, of Kirbyville, Mo., formerly of Lincoln, died on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Skaggs Community Health Center in Branson, Mo.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Kirk Cunningham officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Williamson retired in January 1982 as financial secretary of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union 137 in Springfield, where he worked for 15 years.

He served with the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre.

He was born Aug. 10, 1918, in Fairfield to Charles Herman and Mabel Glen Taylor Williamson. He married Florence E. Gratwohl on March 16, 1943, in St. Charles, Mo.

Surviving are his wife, of Kirbyville, Mo.; one son, John (and Diane) Williamson of Lincoln; one granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Gibson of Hudson; two great-grandchildren, Jared Austin and Rachel Jordan Gibson; one brother, Russell Williamson of Lincoln; and one sister, Doris Hoepfner of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Branson, Mo., where he was an elder for six years.
