Airport news wanted

6-11-01

To the editor:

There was an Airport Committee meeting on Monday...yet there has been no report of what happened at that meeting.  I have not seen an article in LDN nor the Lincoln Courier.  Were there no reporters available?  Shouldn't the meeting have been covered, considering the recent controversy at the airport?

Thank you.

‘Let’s clean up our city’

6-9-01

To the editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to voice my opinion on a few issues. The statue of Abraham Lincoln might be a good idea; however, I think we should be more concerned about the way our city looks. We have so many old buildings that need to be torn down and cleaned up. It seems to me the big issues of this town are overlooked.

What happened to our yearly cleanup? Towns like Atlanta and Clinton have yearly cleanups, and they have a smaller population than our town.

A friend of mine received a letter from Mr. Last to clean up around his garage. He works on lawn mowers. Most of these mowers he gives away or loans out. It is not a money-making deal for him. He works a full-time job at the prison. He leaves the scrap metal he does not use on a trailer for someone to pick up and turn in for money. A good example of a taxpayer doing a good thing but being reprimanded at the same time.

When you look around Lincoln and see all of the old buildings and run-down houses still sitting empty, it's kind of hard for Mr. Last not to see these. Maybe it will take a child to get hurt playing in one of these condemned buildings or someone losing a house when these buildings catch on fire. Maybe then these issues will be dealt with.

It looks like when Mayor Davis took office, she didn't replace the right department heads.

Let’s clean up our city before we consider a statue.

Baseball Boosters president suggests coverage of spring sports banquet

6-8-01

To the editor:

I was wondering if the Lincoln Daily News was going to cover the spring sports banquet for the Lincoln High School baseball team. I bet if it dealt with another sport like basketball it would have been covered.  The Lincoln Courier didn't even cover it, and our ad ran in their paper for two days. This is news about the kids of Logan County that doesn't go on the record. I bet coach Hake was wondering the very same thing.

Thank you for supporting our kids.
