Pastor to be ordained and
installed at Hartsburg church

[MARCH 24, 2001]  Pastor David Lee Russell will be ordained and installed at Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hartsburg on Sunday, March 25, at 10:15 a.m. Pastor Frank Pieper will serve as Pastor Russell's sponsor. The sermon will be delivered by Pastor Steven Tibbetts. Bishop Warren D. Freiheit will conduct the ordination and installation.

A public reception will be given in Pastor Russell's honor from 2 to 4 p.m. in the gymnasium at Hartsburg-Emden High School. A program will begin at 3:30 p.m.

The new pastor's education, professional background and interests are outlined as follows:

Education

• B.S.E. in industrial engineering from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga

• M.Div. in pastoral ministry from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

• M.A. in spiritual formation from Duquesne University

• M.A. in liturgical studies from the University of Notre Dame

• S.T.M. in liturgical studies from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (upon completion of thesis)

Professional background

• Completed internship with a Lutheran congregation on Long Island

• Former claims representative with Farmers Insurance

• Used to hire and train people nationally to assemble and repair exercise equipment

• Trained in engineering

Interests

• Liturgy—currently working on thesis about how using texts, such as Bible, hymnal, prayer book, bulletin, sermon notes, etc., shape what we do on Sunday mornings

• Travel

• Church architecture

• Photography—photographed over 2,500 churches and synagogues around the nation

• Hymnals and prayer books—collection of about 800 or so

Meeting will feature ‘Dolls
Throughout the Years’

[MARCH 24, 2001]  The Jolly Seniors group from Lincoln Christian Church invites those 55-plus to attend the group’s monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 27, at 10 a.m. The program will feature "Dolls Throughout the Years."

Dr. Gary Hall from Lincoln Christian Seminary will lead the devotion, and special music will be provided by Gail King.

The group will also enjoy a baked ham dinner, catered by Guzzardo’s. Suggested cost for the meal is $4.

The Jolly Seniors want you to experience a warm fellowship with people who care for one another, an enjoyable time filled with great food, fun, interesting programs and a spiritual lift to encourage you in your life.
