James Johnson

Dr. James Ray Johnson, 61, of Lincoln, formerly of Springfield, died at 10:28 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2002, at his home.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, 127 S. Logan St. in Lincoln.

The service, also at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader, will be at 10 a.m. Friday.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.

Johnson was chief compliance officer for the Illinois State Board of Education before he retired.

He was born July 22, 1940, in Evansville, Ind., to Paul B. and Virginia Krutsinger Johnson.

One aunt, Anne Goin of Springfield, and several cousins survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

He graduated from Lincoln Community High School and the University of Arkansas and received his doctorate from the University of Illinois.

He was a member of the Good Guy Street Rod Club and the Railsplitter Car Club.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Townsend Paine

Townsend W. "T.W." Paine, 86, of Hopedale died at 9:18 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2002, at his home.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at the Hopedale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Thompson will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Paine was a lifelong Tazewell County farmer.

He was born Nov. 9, 1915, near Hopedale to Clinton Ray and Miriam Sands Paine. He married Mildred Iutzi on Jan. 30, 1944, at Stanford. She died in April 1999.

Surviving are one daughter, Maggie (and Jim) Thompson of Normal; six grandchildren, Christine (and Greg) Wheet of Armington, Craig, Curtis and Claire Paine of Armington, Terry Dodds of Springfield, Mo., and Geoffrey (and Heidi) Dodds of Bloomington; one great-grandson, Michael Wheet of Armington; and one brother, Arthur Wendell (and Alice) Paine of Hopedale.

He was also preceded in death by one son, John W. Paine; one brother, Wesley Paine; and three sisters, Eloise Litwiller, Ruth Forbes and Evelyn Paine.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
