U.S. Senate candidate Jonathan Wright files petition signatures    

[DEC. 17, 2003]  Representatives of the Citizens for Wright campaign announced Monday (Dec. 15) that Jonathan Wright has filed the required petition signatures with the State Board of Elections in Springfield, thus securing a place on the March 2004 Republican primary ballot for U.S. Senate. Wright, the only downstate Republican candidate, is campaigning for the seat being vacated by retired Sen. Peter Fitzgerald.

Wright's campaign has evidenced statewide support with over 7,300 signatures collected from 91 counties.

"I am very excited about the momentum of the campaign," said Wright. "The number of counties reflected in our petitions indicates a strong statewide presence."

"I am very pleased by the volunteer effort that was made to collect these signatures," Wright added. "There were no paid positions involved in our collection process, and I think the effort suggests widespread, active grassroots support."

Wright, an assistant state's attorney in Logan County, was not present at the filing due to prosecuting a jury trial in Lincoln.
