Ralph Casstevens

Ralph M. Casstevens, 95, of Lincoln died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at 7:40 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Tom Gerdts officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.

Mr. Casstevens retired in 1972 after 30 years as a machine operator for Illinois Central. He was born March 25, 1907, in Shelby County to J. Marion and Lucille Marsh Casstevens. He married Amelia "Millie" Kapik on April 23, 1955, in Lincoln. She died Oct. 18, 2002.

Surviving are one son, Robert (and Irma) Casstevens of Mendota; two daughters, Paula (and Bud) Charlton of Frederickstown, Mo., and Johanna (and Frank) Henson of Oakboro, N.C.; two stepsons, Gary (and Sharon) Rohlfs of Lincoln and Lee (and Vicki) Rohlfs of Anthem, Ariz.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Cleo Blickem of Frederickstown, Mo., and Mary Ann Cunningham of East Peoria.

He was also preceded in death by one son, one grandson and one sister.

He was a member of Lincoln Hill Free Methodist Church and the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way.

Memorials may be made to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital or Lincoln Hill Free Methodist Church.

Wade Easley

Wade Nelson Easley, 72, of Mason City died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at 4:45 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hurley Funeral Home, 603 E. Chestnut in Mason City. The Rev. Robert Armstrong will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

The body has been cremated, and burial of ashes will be in Mason City Cemetery, with military rites at the graveside.

Mr. Easley worked at National By-Products in Mason City for 26 years. He also owned and operated Indian Spring Stables in Danville.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was born July 11, 1930, in Oklahoma to Samuel and Mabel Fletcher Easley. He was married to Mary Ann Carter, and she died Sept. 7, 1978.

Surviving are two sons, Randy (and Connie) Easley of Mason City and Michael Easley of Mason City; one daughter, Paula (and Tim) Tyler of Montrose, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Gene (and Wilma Mae) Harris, Jack Easley and Frank (and Kathy) Root, all of Mason City, and Dene (and Joanne) Harris of Pekin; four sisters, Audrey Johnson, Daisy Marcum, Alice Wagner and Nadine Anderson, all of Mason City.

He was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.


Stella Harris

Stella Mae Howard Harris, 70, formerly of Lincoln, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at 5:28 p.m. at her home in Normal.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holland and Barry in Lincoln. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Burial will be in Elkhart Cemetery.

Mrs. Harris taught at Lincoln Junior High School for many years.

She was born Nov. 9, 1932, in Paducah, Ky., to Charles H. and Sarah E. Newman Howard. She married William Earl Harris on Dec. 24, 1951, at Wolf Lake. He died Nov. 13, 1999.

Surviving are one daughter, Sara Lynn (and David) Flanders of Normal, and one brother, Houstton "Bill" (and Nellie) Howard of Cherry Valley.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Evelyn Marie Howard.

Mrs. Harris was a member of Fellowship Southern Baptist Church of Lincoln, where she taught Sunday school for a number of years. She was also a member of the National Education Association and was very supportive of Lincoln Community Theatre and the Community Players of Bloomington.

She had received two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree in home economics from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

Joyce Lux

Joyce Marie Lux, 73, of San Jose died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at 2:27 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the San Jose United Methodist Church. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with Pastor Adam Corzine officiating.

Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, rural San Jose.

Mrs. Lux retired in July 1994 after working for many years as a clerk at Hartsburg State Bank.

She was born July 8, 1929, in Atlanta to Dale and Opal Griffith Newlin. She married Robert A. Lux on April 24, 1948, in Newton. He died March 10, 1995.

Surviving are one son, Ronald (and Julie) Lux of Kearney, Mo.; two daughters, Debra (and Kim) Albers of San Jose and Jayne (and Alex) Custodio of San Jose; four grandchildren; three brothers, Donald Newlin of Newton, LeRoy Newlin of Louisville, Tenn., and Thomas (and Kathy) Newlin of Houston, Texas; and five sisters, JoAnn (and George) Walk of Goodfield, Jane (and Sid) Page of Benton, Sharon (and Gary) Jackson of Newton, Pat Snyder of Birmingham, Ala.; and Linda Mullen of Newton.

She was also preceded in death by one sister.

She was a member of the San Jose United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and San Jose Lions Club.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church.


Edna Noble

Edna Noble, 78, of Atlanta, died Sunday, January 5, 2003, at her home.

Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Quiram Funeral Home in Atlanta.

Her funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. Dan Wissmann officiating.

Burial is in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.

Mrs. Noble farmed with her husband from 1954 to 1981. She also was employed at the Stetson China Company in Lincoln for 24 years. She was a Tupperware representative for 19 years.

She was born Nov. 3, 1924, in rural Lincoln to Ernest and Velna Easton Winkel. She married Russell Noble on Sept. 8, 1945, at Earlville. He died Jan. 30, 1980.

Surviving are one daughter, Linda (and Pat) Bell of Atlanta; one foster son, Ernie Brown of Lincoln; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, June Segretto and Eleanor Noble, both of Lincoln; two brothers, Edgar Winkel of Lincoln and George Winkel of Vero Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter and two sisters.

She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln and a member of the Atlanta American Legion Auxiliary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
