Dene Harris

Dene Harris, 76, of Pekin died Saturday, March 22, 2003, at 5:25 a.m. at the Pekin Manor in Pekin.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City.  His funeral, with Nash Shawgo officiating, will follow at 11:30 a.m.

Burial will be in Mason City Cemetery, Mason City.

Mr. Harris was a World War II Navy veteran, serving at Boston, Mass., and Guam on the USS Gyatt 712 out of Norfolk, Va.  He did two tours of Europe.

He retired from Corn Products in Pekin after 31 years of employment.

He was born Aug. 24, 1926, in Butler, Okla., to Nelson Harris and Mabel Easley. He married Joanne Kathleen Butler in Maquon, Mo., on March 27, 1954.

Survivors are his wife; three brothers, Gene Harris (his twin), Jack Easley and Frank Root, all of Mason City; and four sisters, Audrey Johnson, Daisey Marcum, Alice Wagner and Nadine Anderson, all of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter (stillborn).

Military rites will be provided by the Mason City American Legion Post 496.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.


Margaret 'Peg' Worth

Margaret "Peg" Worth died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at 3:30 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. March 29 at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Henry Cox officiating. Visitation will be an hour before the service.

Burial of cremains will be in Richmond Grove Cemetery, New Holland.

Mrs. Worth was employed by the Illinois secretary of state for 34 years before she retired in 1973. She lived in Springfield for many years before her marriage, when she moved to New Holland.

She was born May 27, 1913, in Edinburg to Richard and Marie Driskell Lowe. She married Glen Worth on Oct. 6, 1955, in Springfield.

Surviving are one stepson, Thomas (and Jan) Worth of Lake in the Hills; a stepgranddaughter, Lori (and Butch) Brown of Clarksville, Tenn.; two step-great-grandsons; one sister, Nellie Rescho of Springfield; two nieces, Linda (and Harold) Whitworth of Nashville and Patti Fricke of Springfield; and several nephews.

She was preceded in death by a stepson, Brem Worth, and a sister, Darliene Youngberg.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Middletown and the women's organization of the church. She was also a member of the New Holland Women's Club, The Oasis senior citizens of Lincoln, the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was a volunteer at the hospital for many years,

She was a graduate of Springfield High School and Illinois Business College.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Middletown.

 

Mary Bridges

Mary Louise Bridges, 86, formerly of Atlanta, died Saturday, March 22, 2003, at 1:55 a.m. at St. Clara's Manor in Lincoln, where she had resided for the past 10 years.

A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Atlanta Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Quiram Funeral Home in Atlanta is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Bridges was a homemaker, and she volunteered several years at Lincoln Developmental Center as a foster grandparent.

She was born March 8, 1917, at Bridgeport, Ind., to Charles and Margaret Bethman Lamb. She married Lloyd D. Patterson in 1939, and he died in 1966. She married Robert Bridges in 1970, and he died in 1976.

Survivors are one son, John Patterson of Lincoln, and one sister, Gerry Freehill of Normal.

She was also preceded in death by one son, one brother and one sister.

She was a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Clara's Manor in Lincoln.
