[11:02 a.m. news release]

[NOV. 12, 2003]  A wind advisory remains in effect until 9 this evening (Wednesday) for the counties of Cass, Champaign, Christian, Coles, DeWitt, Douglas,  Edgar, Fulton, Knox, Logan, Macon, Marshall, Mason, McLean, Menard, Morgan, Moultrie, Peoria, Piatt,  Sangamon, Schuyler, Scott, Shelby, Stark, Tazewell, Vermilion, Woodford, including the cities of Beardstown, Bloomington, Canton, Champaign, Charleston, Clinton, Danville, Decatur, Eureka, Galesburg, Havana, Jacksonville, Lacon, Lewistown, Lincoln, Mason City, Mattoon, Monticello, Paris, Pekin, Peoria, Rantoul, Rushville, Shelbyville, Springfield, Sullivan,  Taylorville, Tuscola, Virginia and Winchester.

A strong cold front will move through central Illinois this afternoon.  Behind the front, northwesterly winds will increase to between 25 and 35 mph late this afternoon, with gusts to 45 mph possible. The winds are expected to gradually diminish after midnight.

A wind advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be 31 to 39 mph or gusts will range between 46 and 57 mph. Winds of these magnitudes may cause minor property damage without extra precautions. Motorists in high-profile vehicles should use caution until the winds subside.
