Lincoln College signs Washam     Send a link to a friend

[APRIL 1, 2004]  Lincoln College softball coach John Andrews has signed Lincoln High School senior Kelsey Washam to help the Lynx softball team next season. Last season she had a .402 slugging percentage for the Railers. She is the second softball player to sign with Lincoln College for next season.

Washam considered a few other schools; however, she thought LC was a good fit. She plans to play both in the infield and behind the plate.

Andrews has also signed Krystina Gomez, a right-handed pitcher from St. Charles East High School.

"We are glad to get a player of Kelsey's caliber from an area high school," Andrews said. "She is a hard worker and has shown leadership ability at LCHS. She comes to play every day and is an excellent person as well as a softball player, which is very important in building a program. We hope to be able to recruit other players from the area."

Lincoln High School coach Ken Schweitzer said: "Kelsey is a competitor who knows the game very well. She is a hustler, and I feel she has the ability to be a power hitter. I think Lincoln College will be a very good place for Kelsey to begin her college career."

As a junior, Kelsey hit .241, with four triples and six doubles included. She caught nearly every game for the Railers last season, and this year she will be used behind the plate and will also play some shortstop, according to Schweitzer.

Washam is an A student at LCHS. She is the daughter of Rick and Jodi Washam and has one brother and one sister.
