Holiday highway construction zone closures     Send a link to a friend

[APRIL 7, 2004]  SPRINGFIELD -- The Illinois Department of Transportation announced April 1 that highway construction work will be suspended, where possible, on state highways to give motorists a break during the Easter holiday period.

Work zone areas will be opened for normal traffic patterns during the afternoon of Friday, April 9, and will remain open until midnight Sunday, April 11.

However, there will be a number of work zones that will continue to have lane closures. Motorists are advised to slow down and be alert in those work zones and are reminded that work zone speed limits are still in effect.

Motorists are advised to check the Department of Transportation's traveler website, www.illinoisroads.info, for road construction information. Interstate road information is also available at 1 (800) 452-IDOT [4368].

In the greater Chicago area there will be work on the following expressway:

Dan Ryan Expressway

Temporary closures at night may occur from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. weekdays, 8 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday and 8 p.m. Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday. These closures will be in relation to the 170th Street bridge work and the temporary shoulder creation along the expressway.
