The place to hear Illini football

[APRIL 22, 2004]  Springfield and central Illinois' only local sports talk radio station, WHOW, at 1520 AM, began regular programming Monday with the "Jim and Tim Morning Show" from 6 till 10 a.m. Scott Bussboom's afternoon show is heard from 1 till 5.

While WHOW will continue to be an agricultural radio station from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. weekdays, the rest of the broadcast schedule will be set aside for sports talk.

"WHOW is the only radio station in central Illinois that offers local, in-studio hosts talking sports on a daily basis," said WHOW station manager Jim Sauers.

In preparation for the regular programming Monday, the 1520 AM signal broadcast the Chicago Bears football team's "Super Bowl Shuffle" and other sports-related songs continuously. "We're playing the sports songs at all times we are on the air except for the time of our farm programming, from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m.," said Sauers.

"We'll talk about the Cubs, Sox, Cardinals, Bears, Rams and sports in general," Sauers said. "With our strong signal reaching into Decatur, Champaign, Bloomington, Peoria, Springfield and beyond, we'll give sports fans in all of central Illinois a chance to talk sports," Sauers continued.

The station will carry University of Illinois football in the fall and also has plans to cover other professional sports teams throughout the year.
