All Academy Nights to be held in Pekin and Springfield

[APRIL 30, 2004]  PEORIA -- U.S. Rep. Ray LaHood will host his annual All Academy Night in Pekin on May 3 and in Springfield on May 4. Members of LaHood's staff and representatives from each of the five federal military service academies will be on hand to talk with interested students, and their parents, about attending one of the academies.

The service academies offer fully funded four-year scholarships to young U.S. citizens who qualify by age and academics, who demonstrate desirable leadership qualities, and who have the wherewithal to strive for excellence in all their endeavors. The academies strive to produce professional officers who have the knowledge, character and motivation that are essential to leadership.

The Pekin All Academy Night is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Monday in the Dirksen Room of the Pekin Public Library, 301 S. Fourth St. Students and parents are not required to register in advance for the Pekin event.

Rich Neely at (217) 757-1320 or richard.neely@ilspri.ang.af.mil

Students or parents with questions about the forums can contact Carol Merna of LaHood's staff at (309) 671-7027 or carol.merna@mail.house.gov.
