[AUG. 9, 2004]  Notes from the Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County:

August is Route 66 month!

We have chosen this month for Route 66 because of many factors. Logan County is the midway point of Illinois Route 66 drive; we have several landmarks and history derived from Route 66; and Aug. 5 was Ernie Edwards' 87th birthday!

Come by the Logan County Courthouse and see the tourism bureau's Route 66 display case .

Ernie Edwards is a successful business entrepreneur from Route 66 with the Pig Hip Restaurant and has now developed and opened the Pig Hip Museum in Broadwell.

Visit Ernie and Frances at the Pig Hip Museum this month, wish Ernie a “happy birthday,” take your picture with Ernie, send or bring it in to the tourism bureau office no later than 5 p.m. Aug. 31, and receive a key chain!

Promotions and contests for month of August

  • Volunteer historian contest -- Photographs, documentation or any verified information about Route 66, its businesses and homes are wanted. Send or bring in our documentation to the tourism office no later than 5 p.m. on Aug. 31 and receive a coffee mug!
  • Tourist find contest -- Where is this picture in Logan County? It's a part of a Route 66 landmark. Take your picture at this site, send or bring it in to the tourism office no later than 5 p.m. Aug. 31, and be placed in the drawing for a tourism bureau polo shirt!

Contest rules: All entries must be submitted to the Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County, 303 S. Kickapoo Street, Lincoln, IL  62656. All submissions must be received in the main office by the contest deadline date. Any professional historian or any person having received any payment or compensation in connection with collecting or receiving historical documentation or evaluation, or any person or family member associated with the tourism bureau or the Logan County Board are not eligible.
