'Stardust' program at Weldon Springs     Send a link to a friend

[AUG. 11, 2004]  SPRINGFIELD -- Weldon Springs State Recreation Area will offer a special program, "A Shower of Stardust -- the annual Perseid Meteor Shower," at 10 tonight (Wednesday) at the Meadowview picnic area. Area residents are invited to enjoy the spectacular display as Earth travels through a stream of cosmic debris and our atmosphere incinerates tiny particles of Comet Swift-Tuttle to produce 50-60 "shooting stars" per hour.

A fire and a treat will be provided. Participants should bring a blanket, bug spray and a sweater for comfort. Please respect park quiet hours, which begin at 10 p.m.

If skies are not clear, the program will be offered on Thursday, weather permitting.
