The seventh annual 3-D Archery
Fun Shoot, benefiting the Illinois Sportsmen Against Hunger program,
will be at
Buck Stop Archery in Brownstown on Aug. 29. All ages are invited
to compete. Registration is from 8 to 11:30 a.m., with all
scorecards to be turned in by 1:30 p.m. The award ceremony will
begin at 2 p.m.
Trophy categories at this
year’s fun shoot include first through third places for men and
women in Open, Release, Fingers and Traditional classes; first
through sixth places for boys and girls ages 13-17, junior ages
9-12, and children ages 8 and younger.

The Illinois Conservation
Foundation and the Illinois Association of Park Districts invite
golfers to participate in the annual Chicagoland Golf Benefit,
hosted by the Wheaton Park District, on Monday, Sept. 13, at the
Arrowhead Golf Club. The outing schedule includes registration and
breakfast at 8 a.m., a shotgun start for golf at 9 a.m., followed by
a reception, lunch and awards program at 1:30 p.m.
Registration is $125 per
golfer, or $400 per foursome with preregistration. Hole sponsorships
are available for $300 each. Proceeds will benefit programs of the
Illinois Conservation Foundation and the Illinois Association of
Park Districts.

The Becoming an Outdoors-Woman
weekend workshop is scheduled for Sept. 17 -19, at Camp Piasa at
Pere Marquette State Park in Grafton. Registration began on Aug. 1
and will remain open until all of the sessions are filled. The
workshop is a weekend full of adventurous outdoor activities such as
shooting sports, fishing, canoeing, camping, archery, wild edibles,
orienteering, outdoor survival and much more.

Permit applications are now
available for the 2004 Illinois Resident Youth Antlerless-Only Deer
Hunt, Oct. 9-10. Illinois residents who have not reached the age of
16 by the dates of the hunt are eligible. Open counties include
Adams, Brown, Calhoun, Clark, Crawford, Fayette, Fulton, Greene,
Jasper, Jefferson, Jo Daviess, Lawrence, Macoupin, McLean, Morgan,
Ogle, Perry, Pike, Randolph, Richland, Schuyler, St. Clair, Wayne,
White, Whiteside and Williamson.
The deadline to apply for the
first lottery was Aug. 13. The last day to apply is Sept. 21. Check

Turkey Bluffs State Fish and
Wildlife Area near Chester and Kaskaskia River State Fish and
Wildlife Area near Baldwin Lake will be open during the annual
Illinois Department of Natural Resources Antlerless-Only Youth Deer
Hunt Oct. 9-10. To help manage the site’s deer population near
Baldwin Lake, Kaskaskia River State Fish and Wildlife Area will
allow 30 youth to hunt antlerless deer on part of the rest area
between the lake and Doza Creek Waterfowl Management Area, an area
previously closed to all hunting. To be eligible to hunt in this
special area, young people need to secure either a St. Clair County
or Randolph County youth deer season permit.
A youth hunt will be conducted
at the Bottoms in Gallatin County as part of the Illinois Resident
Youth Antlerless-Only Deer Hunt Oct. 9-10. Space is limited. For

The University of Illinois will
conduct an archery deer hunting program this fall at designated
areas within Robert Allerton Park, located near Monticello in Piatt
County. The purpose of the hunt is to collect research data on
whitetail deer and help control the deer population within Allerton
Park in order to protect the integrity of the entire ecosystem of
the park.
This special hunt was made
available only to current Illinois residents, and the deadline for
the mail-in drawing was Aug. 13. Successful applicants will be
notified by mail by Sept. 17. They are being assigned one of the
seven hunting periods and one of three hunting zones. The Allerton
Park archery hunt allows 24 archery hunters access during each of
the following periods: Oct. 30-Nov. 5, Nov. 6-12, Nov. 13-18, Nov.
27-Dec. 1, Dec. 6-10, Dec. 11-17, Dec. 18-24. The three hunting
zones are all located south of the Sangamon River and north of
Allerton Road.
