LINCOLN -- Blanche A. Alexander, 92, of Lincoln, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at 10:15 p.m. at the Christian Village Care Center and went to be with the Lord.

A service of praise celebrating Mrs. Alexander's life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Lincoln, with the Rev. Robert Henderson officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. at the church.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Mrs. Alexander was a dietary worker at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital before she retired and also served the hospital in several capacities as a volunteer.

She was born May 29, 1912, at Champaign to Richard E. and Margaret Kesler Morfey. She married Dean E. "Gene" Alexander on May 29, 1932, in Charleston. He died Oct. 6, 2000.

She is survived by two daughters, Margaret M. (and Robert) Doyle of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Judith A. Katz of Lincoln; one son, David E. (and Sonnie) Alexander of Lincoln; eight grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, William Morfey of Urbana.

She was also preceded in death by six sisters and four brothers.

Mrs. Alexander was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lincoln, where she taught Sunday school for many years and sang in the choir. She also participated and held offices in the Baptist Women's Fellowship.

She was a wonderful homemaker and had lived in Lincoln since 1939.

Her unwavering devotion to her Lord and her family will never be forgotten.

LINCOLN -- Ruth Apel, 91, of Lincoln died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at 6 p.m. at the Christian Village.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln, with the Rev. Richard Reinwald officiating. Visitation will be a half hour before the service.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Apel was a homemaker.

She was born Aug. 5, 1913, in West Lincoln Township to Harry C. and Louise Coorts Schrader. She married Carl Apel on June 6, 1952, in Lincoln. He died in 2003.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Alice L. Mote.

She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, the Charity Guild at the church and a former member of the choir.

She was a former secretary-treasurer of the Lincoln Home Extension and a lifetime member of the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

She attended Rothchild School, West Lincoln, Lincoln Community High School and Lincoln Business College.

Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ or Lincoln Christian Village.
