[10:43 a.m. Monday announcement]

[FEB. 2, 2003]  A low-pressure area will move from southwest Missouri to southern Wisconsin during the afternoon and into early this evening. A mixture of freezing rain, sleet and snow is anticipated before the precipitation changes to all snow.

For the counties of Cass, Christian, DeWitt, Logan, Macon, McLean, Menard, Morgan, Sangamon and Scott, including the cities of Bloomington, Decatur, Jacksonville, Lincoln, Springfield and Taylorville:

A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Freezing rain and sleet will give way to rain as slightly warmer temperatures move into central Illinois early this afternoon. As colder air filters into the region late this afternoon and early this evening, rain will change back to a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow before changing to all snow. Snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are expected by late tonight.

Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Slow down and allow extra time when traveling. Practice your winter safety rules and keep a flashlight, food and water in your car in case of emergency.
