Many consumers often
overlook a credit history until a major financial decision needs to
be made, such as buying a house or car. The Logan County unit of
University of Illinois Extension is sponsoring a workshop called
"Your Credit Report is Talking, Are You Listening." The workshop
will be at 7 p.m. March 9 at the Logan County Extension office in
Lincoln.

Jennifer Hunt, consumer and family
economics educator from University of Illinois Extension East Peoria
Center, will present information to help participants learn what a
credit history is, how to establish a credit history and how to
maintain their credit history. Also to be discussed is information
about how to obtain a copy of a credit report, the steps to correct
mistakes in a credit report and a consumer's rights under the Fair
Credit Reporting Act. Resources for help will also be provided.

Participants will receive the
award-winning "Credit Card Smarts" fact sheet series and
informational handouts on reducing your chances for identity theft
and protecting your personal privacy.
Interested
individuals are invited to attend. Please call (217) 732-8289 by
March 5 to preregister for the program. It will last about an hour
and is provided at no cost to the participants.
