[FEB. 20, 2004]  Many consumers often overlook a credit history until a major financial decision needs to be made, such as buying a house or car. The Logan County unit of University of Illinois Extension is sponsoring a workshop called "Your Credit Report is Talking, Are You Listening." The workshop will be at 7 p.m. March 9 at the Logan County Extension office in Lincoln.

Jennifer Hunt, consumer and family economics educator from University of Illinois Extension East Peoria Center, will present information to help participants learn what a credit history is, how to establish a credit history and how to maintain their credit history. Also to be discussed is information about how to obtain a copy of a credit report, the steps to correct mistakes in a credit report and a consumer's rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Resources for help will also be provided.

Interested individuals are invited to attend. Please call (217) 732-8289 by March 5 to preregister for the program. It will last about an hour and is provided at no cost to the participants.
