LCHS speech team wins
at Normal West

[JAN. 12, 2004]  The Lincoln Community High School speech team competed at the fourth annual Snow Bowl at Normal Community West High School and finished first in the seven-team tournament.

Varsity tournament champions from LCHS were Brady Gerdts and Brittany Feese in dramatic duet, Lindsey Boerma and Doug Rohrer in humorous duet, Lindsey Boerma in humorous interpretation, Erica Brickey in declamation, and Tom Swanson in special occasion and prose.

Other varsity finalists were Doug Rohrer and Brandon Davis, fourth, and Daniel Ohmart and Tony Curcuru in dramatic duet; Kathryn Muck, second in dramatic interpretation; Brandon Rahn, fourth, and Miranda Merriman, fifth, in extemporaneous; Brady Gerdts and Kasey Pepperell, second, Tony Curcuru and Kathryn O'Donoghue, third, and Daniel Ohmart and Patrick Perry, fifth, in humorous duet; Kathryn Muck, third, and Rachel Hahn, sixth, in humorous interpretation; Kasey Pepperell, second, Brandon Rahn, fifth, and Amy Schumacher, sixth, in impromptu; Sonya Twist, third, and Brandon Davis, fourth, in declamation; Rachel Hahn, fourth, and Brian Welter, fifth, in original comedy; Audrey Beach, second, Sonya Twist, fourth, and Ruth Ohmart, fifth, in oratory; Rachel Kasa, third in prose; Brian Welter, second, and Audrey Beach, fourth, in radio; Jill Patrick, fifth, and Fay Allison, sixth, in special occasion; and Erica Brickey, third, and Eric Knutilla, sixth, in verse.

Novice tournament champions were Merri Laurence and Jill Patrick in dramatic duet and Andrew Kleinman in special occasion.

Other novice placers were Kathryn O'Donoghue, third in dramatic interpretation; Patrick Perry, second in humorous interpretation; Kaylee Carnahan, third in declamation; Adrienne Hildebrandt, second in oratory; Rebecca Rogers, second in prose and fifth in verse; Andrew Kleinman, sixth in radio; and Rachel Kasa, fourth in verse.

"This weekend was a wonderful way to start the new year," said Ed Jodlowski, one of the Lincoln speech coaches. "We made some changes and are still fine-tuning the team, but they keep meeting our challenges and excelling. This weekend the team travels to the Heyworth tournament.
