[JAN. 15, 2004]  Two requests involving rezoning will come up before the city's zoning board this evening, (Thursday, Jan. 15).

First, the board will hear a petition for rezoning. Steve and Cindy Goodman have petitioned to have two lots rezoned from I-2 (commercial) to R-2 (residential). The six lots next to these two lots are already zoned as residential. The lots are part of an eight-lot group that the Goodmans would like to build homes on. The properties are located on North Eighth Street by the nursing home property.

If the two lots gain favor for rezoning, the Goodmans will seek the board's approval of an eight-lot subdivision proposal.

Next the board will entertain another two-step process. They will consider amending the zoning code at the Logan County Fairgrounds.

Property owners within 150 feet of the fairgrounds have been given written notice of the hearing as required by law.

The first consideration will be to add a special use for car racing to the C-2 district. If accepted, the board will recommend the city council amend that ordinance to include car racing.

Second, a request by a D&H Racing Enterprise for that special use for racing will be considered.

People attending will be given opportunity to speak for or against the special use amendment to the zoning at the fairgrounds or the rezoning of the lots on North Eighth Street.

The meeting begins at City Hall chambers at 7 p.m.
