[JULY 16, 2004]  MIDDLETOWN -- Come celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Expedition to the Pacific Ocean -- 1804-2004. Mark your calendars for Sunday (July 18).

  • Event: Annual Knapp-Chesnut-Becker Historical Society ice cream social

  • Where: Middletown Park pavilion

  • When: Sunday, July 18, 2-4 p.m.

  • What: Good fun! Good food! And "larnin'"

Schedule

2 p.m. -- Capt. William Clark returns to tell of the harrowing adventures with Indians and nature in fulfilling President Thomas Jefferson's dream of expanding U.S. territory to the Pacific Ocean. Russell Hively of Neosho, Mo., portrays Capt. Clark in an appearance sponsored by the Illinois Humanities Council's Road Scholars program.

3 p.m. -- Peoria Barbershoppers: beautiful harmony and music of old and new songs

4:30 p.m. -- Drawing to determine winners of the raffles for two silver dollar coins commemorating the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery.
