[JUNE 15, 2004]  Blane Fletcher, son of Michael and Cleola Fletcher of Emden, has signed a letter of intent to attend Lincoln College in the fall. He is a 2004 graduate of Hartsburg-Emden High School.

Lincoln College baseball coach Tony Thomas thinks Fletcher is a good addition to the team. "He's got good athletic ability and has room to grow, which is a definite plus for us, the coach said. He's the type of player that gives you lots of innings, and the bottom line with any pitcher is that he throws lots of strikes." Fletcher will start in the pitcher position for the Lynx and might see action in other positions, according to Thomas.

At Hartem High School Fletcher was awarded the pitching award from 2001 through 2003. During his senior year he was named the most improved player by high school coach Bryan Fincham, a 1996 Lincoln College graduate. During his senior year Fletcher started 10 times, pitched 52 innings and compiled a win-loss record of 5-4. His ERA was 2.01.

He plans to pursue a career in sports therapy and will transfer to either Illinois State University or Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville after earning his associate in arts degree from Lincoln College.
