County health department's Home Health Division receives award     Send a link to a friend

[JUNE 24, 2004]  The Logan County Health Department Home Health Division has recently been recognized for its excellence of care to patients with respiratory problems by an award granted through the Illinois Foundation for Quality Health Care. The foundation works with physicians and health care professionals to promote high-quality medical care for Medicare beneficiaries and is the quality improvement organization for the state.

The home health staff at the local health department developed standard protocols for the treatment of patients with congestive health failure, chronic lung disease and other respiratory conditions. Implementation of these measures yielded significant improvement in patients' condition, exceeding both state and national averages. Other home health agencies are now beginning to adopt the protocols.

The Logan County Health Department has operated its Home Health Division for over 20 years, offering skilled nursing care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, bathing and personal care assistance, catheter care, dressing changes, injections, and respite care to patients within a 50-mile radius of Lincoln.
