[JUNE 26, 2004]  The 40th anniversary of the Illinois Conference of the United Church of Christ met on the Elmhurst College campus in Elmhurst recently.

Michelle Johnson and Heather Goetsch of St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln stand with the banner they carried in the parade of over 100 banners from the participating churches at the opening worship service.

Under the theme of "From a Firm Foundation Our Future Flows," special speakers were the Rev. Dr. W. Sterling Cary, conference minister emeritus; the Rev. Dr. John Thomas, general minister president of the United Church of Christ; and the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright, pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.

During the business meeting, the gathering voted to create a partnership with the Evangelical Congregational Church of Angola. Several delegates from Angola were present to participate in the meeting and to be recognized following the vote.

Representing St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln were youth delegates Lois Leonard and Heather Goetsch. Also attending from the Lincoln church were Michelle Johnson, the Rev. Richard Reinwald, and the Rev. Wallace and Tonita Reifsteck.
