Bronco baseball action     Send a link to a friend

[JUNE 30, 2004]  The Bronco League All-Star team has been very active since last Friday. Playing in the Heat Days Tournament over the weekend, the All-Stars posted a 2-1 record, taking their only loss from the eventual champions in the division.

On Friday evening, the All-Stars defeated the Chatham Lightning in a come-from-behind 9-7 victory. Dillon Wolcott was the winning pitcher in relief. Ty Unger was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Others who had hits were Drake Biggs, Brandon Chrisman, Zach Toft and Mitchell List.

In Saturday's game, the All-Stars defeated the Rochester Rockets 9-3. John White was the winning pitcher, giving up only one earned run while striking out six. Tanner Cicci pitched three strong innings in relief, giving up no earned runs. From the plate, Zach Toft had two hits and three runs scored.

In Sunday's game against the Olympia Flame, the All-Stars couldn't get their bats in gear, losing to the eventual champions of the Bronco tournament, 13-0.

On Tuesday, the All-Stars were back in action. They split a doubleheader with Petersburg at home, losing the opener 9-6 and taking the nightcap 8-1.

In the first game, the All-Stars mounted a comeback but fell short behind strong relief pitching by Drake Biggs. Over four innings, Biggs held Petersburg to two hits and two earned runs. Biggs helped his own cause with a double and run scored. Tanner Cicci blasted two triples and scored twice, while Ty Unger had two hits and two RBIs. Zach Toft also had a triple, run scored and an RBI.

In the second game, excellent pitching and solid defense were keys to victory for Lincoln, while the players continued to swing hot bats. Drake Biggs got the victory in this game, pitching three innings, giving up only one earned run on three hits, striking out three and walking none. John White was excellent in relief, scattering three hits over four innings, striking out six while walking just one and allowing no runs. Tanner Cicci was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. Josh Mote was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Ty Unger had a double, and Corbin Leith had a single and run scored.
