[MARCH 12, 2004]  Logan County 4-H members Kyle Farmer from Middletown, Zack Huffer from Lincoln and Mathew Runyon from Broadwell recently attended the 2004 Junior Leadership Conference at the Hawthorne Suites and Conference Center in Champaign on March 6-7. The second annual event brought together over 150 junior high delegates and chaperones for a weekend of fun and educational programming. The conference was planned and organized by the state 4-H youth leadership team.

Kyle is a member of the Middletown 4-H'ers, Zack is a member of the Wide-A-Wake 4-H Club, and Mathew is a member of the Cloverdale 4-H.

As participants in this junior high conference, delegates attended workshops on community service activities, involving youth with disabilities, public speaking, 4-H opportunities and parliamentary procedure. The workshops were taught by members of the Illinois 4-H youth leadership team. Delegates were also involved in sessions highlighting teen challenges and 4-H project "skill-a-thons" that they could take back to their 4-H clubs.

The young teens also enjoyed an evening of special entertainment by The Rip Chords, a female a cappella group from the University of Illinois. Keith Patterson, an Illinois 4-H alumni winner and motivational speaker, closed the conference on Sunday morning.
