Lawrence Montgomery

Lawrence O. Montgomery, 90, of Mount Pulaski died Thursday (March 18, 2004) at 11:45 a.m. at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mount Pulaski.

His funeral was Monday morning at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with Bill Shanle and John Robertson officiating. Visitation and Masonic rites were on Sunday at the funeral home.

Burial is in Mount Pulaski Cemetery.

Mr. Montgomery retired from Sears in 1976 after 31 years of employment with the company. He was a former mayor of Mount Pulaski.

He was born Sept. 28, 1913, in rural Sparta to James K. and Anna Mary Stewart Montgomery. He married Ruby Ellen Rice on Oct. 13, 1935, in Urbana.

He is survived by two sons, Larry Lee (and Betty) Montgomery of Chestnut and Roy Keith (and Mary Ann) Montgomery of Decatur; one daughter, Sharon Elaine (and P.D.) Highsmith of Oblong; six grandchildren, Brian (and Kathy) Highsmith of Lindsay, Okla., Julie (and Bill) Stoll of Mount Pulaski, Jim (and Erica) Montgomery of Mount Pulaski, Lori (and Greg) Brice of Plano, Texas, Jon (and Teresa) Montgomery of Mount Pulaski and Keith (and Michelle) Montgomery of Decatur; and 13 grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.

He was a member of Mount Pulaski Christian Church, Lions Club, Rotary, IOOF Lodge 454, Masonic Lodge 87, Mount Pulaski Chapter 121, Commandery 39, Ansar Shrine of Springfield and Logan County Shrine Club.
