New venue for Lincoln College students

[MARCH 25, 2004]  Lincoln College has finalized the plans for current students to have a social club and dance venue near campus. The building, which once housed Pizza Hut at 510 Keokuk, is owned by the Gene Burwell family. The Burwells are providing the building to Lincoln College rent-free until the building is sold.

The college will use the building as a venue exclusively for Lincoln College students to enjoy visiting disc jockeys and karaoke nights sponsored by Lincoln College Student Activities. The name of the new venue is still under consideration by current LC students.

Spearheading the project is the director of residential life, Jeff Nelson, a 1989 graduate of the college, who says that Lincoln College now offers someplace close to campus where students can go to socialize and have fun. "Our students have traveled to surrounding university communities to listen to music and socialize. We thought, Why not offer a place where they could go here in Lincoln and not have to travel?" Nelson says he hopes the venue will be operating by early spring.

Lincoln College President Ron Schilling sees potential for use of the building. "We will have 1,200 square feet of additional space to use for students activities, departmental meeting and post-athletics event. We are grateful of the Burwell family generosity for letting LC use this space."
