SPRINGFIELD -- Members of the advisory board

to gather comments from waterfowl hunters prior to making recommendations
for the 2004-2005 seasons. The announcement was made recently by Joel Brunsvold,
department director.

"Waterfowl hunters
are very passionate about their sport. These meetings are an
opportunity for them to share their views regarding season dates
and other related issues. We want to hear about their experiences
this past season and their expectations for the upcoming season,"
Brunsvold said. "Our goal is hear from a broad base of our
constituency so that we are able to provide the best hunting
opportunities possible."
Brunsvold said the
meetings will be conducted by a subcommittee of the Natural
Resources Advisory Board and chaired by board member George
Camille, a lifelong waterfowl hunter.
"We will be
gathering information from waterfowl hunters and making a report
to the entire board. As a board, we want to be able to make the
best recommendation that we can to Director Brunsvold," Camille
said. "The board is a citizens' committee. Listening to the
constituents is an important part of our role. This is a great
opportunity for Illinoisans to express their views, and I hope
hunters around Illinois take advantage of it."
Board members will
listen to staff recommendations from the Department of Natural
Resources and facilitate public input at one public meeting in
each zone. The focus of each meeting will be waterfowl topics
specific to the zone where the meeting is conducted. Primary
topics will include duck and goose season dates for the 2004-05
hunting season.

There will be a
meeting in each zone. The meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. and are
scheduled as follows:
Comments received at
the public meetings, as well as public comments received by board
members and the department, along with staff recommendations, will
be shared by the full Natural Resources Advisory Board at a meeting
scheduled for Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in
Springfield. The full board is expected to discuss the
subcommittee's recommendations and vote on their final
recommendations to Brunsvold.
The Natural Resources Advisory Board has
13 members appointed by the governor. The board recommends hunting
season dates and bag limits and also provides an avenue for public
comment regarding natural resource topics at public meetings
conducted quarterly across the state.
