The community support for the soldiers
and their families during the rally as the 1-106th left Decatur in
January was tremendous. The group's goal for the next year is to
encourage patriotism and support for our troops and to recruit even
more individuals and community businesses to become involved in
organizing the celebration to welcome our soldiers back home as they
return from their long mission in Iraq. Fund-raisers have already
been planned, but more are needed to reach the group's goal.
Individuals may show their support by
picking up a magnetic yellow ribbon for their cars at both Decatur
Mail Boxes Etc. locations, 4837 U.S. Route 36 East at Airport Plaza
and 303 E. Pershing Road, for a donation of $5. Another source is
Jordan's Mobil in Elmwood. Magnets will be sold at Peoria Sam's Club
on June 25 and 26 and at the Rockford Sam's Club on July 9 and 10.
The Moweaqua IGA will host a
fund-raiser on July 2 and 3 from noon to 5 p.m. Rib-eye sandwiches
will be sold, with all proceeds donated to the Welcome Home Fund.
