LC swimmers at Illinois Wesleyan event

[NOV. 23, 2004]  BLOOMINGTON -- Lincoln College easily outdistanced Millikin University to win the men's swimming and diving title at the Illinois Wesleyan event Saturday. The Lynx had a team total of 174, and Millikin finished with 105. Augustana, Webster University, Wesleyan, Monmouth and Benedictine followed the two leaders.

Wesleyan won the women's title with 132 points, Millikin finished second with 85.5, and Lincoln College was third with 77.50.  Following the top three were Augustana, Benedictine, Eureka, Monmouth and Webster.

Kyle Kearby set a new pool record as the Lynx freshman swam the 100-yard fly in 52.56. Kearby also won the 100-yard back with a time of 54.53 and was named the most valuable swimmer for the meet. In addition to the two 100-yard events, Kearby was also a winner in the 200-yard free.

Other first-place winners for Lincoln College were Paul Davis in the 3-meter diving, Eric Mattingly in the 50-yard free and the 100-yard free, and the 200-yard free relay team of Mattingly, James Hnatuik, Brett Pencar and Kearby.

Amanda Hunt won the 1-meter diving title for the Lynx women and also took first place in the 3-meter diving event. She was the lone winner for the Lynx in the women's competition.

3-meter diving -- 1. Paul Davis, 225.25; 2. Shane Costello, 202.75

200-yard medley relay -- 2. LC (Will Dickerson, Robert Aritzmendi, Tyler Johnson, Eric Mattingly), 1:42.12; 4. LC (Pencar, Stephen O'Leary, Tyler Stegmaier, Jeff Byrne), 1:47.34

200 free -- 1. Kyle Kearby, 1:47.51; 2. James Hnatuik, 1:50.96

200 IM -- 2. Stephen O'Leary, 2:02.13; 4. Will Dickerson, 2:10.41
