Lincoln's
Gregg Alexander
led the opening-night charge as the Illinois State Redbirds
dominated Truman State 82-47. After ISU's impressive showing in the
BCA Classic in Milwaukee, where they beat a Big Ten school and a SEC
school, it was nice to see them get off to a good start at home.

With the pep band and the
student section emptied because of Thanksgiving break, the 'Birds
brought their own energy and excitement to the contest. As usual it
was Alexander's intense defensive effort and his characteristic
unselfish play that led the way for ISU.
Alexander electrified the crowd with
two long 3-pointers; finished the night with eight points, three
rebounds, one steal; and he led the team with five assists. He could
have had more, but on some of his entry passes his teammates missed
some bunnies.

This team seems to have a different
air about it this season. With the win, ISU now finds itself at 3-1,
the best start since the 2000-1 team began the season 8-1.
This game marked the start of a
six-game home stand that may go a long way toward ISU's postseason
aspirations. The Redbirds will host Tennessee-Martin on Saturday at
2:05.
