[OCT. 12, 2004]
ST. LOUIS --
Paving the way for a pair of 100-yard rushers is a good way to be
honored as the Gateway Football Conference Offensive Lineman of the
Week, and that was just what Illinois State's
Stafford Davis did as
he claimed the weekly honor Monday.
|
The junior from Orange Park, Fla., put
in the top performance on an offensive line that helped amass 304
rushing yards in a 34-31 win over SMS. Powered by a strong surge in
the trenches, the Redbirds had a pair of 100-yard rushers as Brian
Thompson pounded out 151 yards on the ground, while Demetrus Johnson
rushed for 129.
Davis, who has won the league honor twice in his career, played in
all 92 snaps for the 'Birds without allowing a sack or having a
missed assignment. He also led the line with 20 knockdowns and a
blocking grade of 86 percent.
Davis and the 'Birds return to action on Saturday when Illinois
State travels to Western Illinois for more Gateway Conference
action.
