Many sites will close at 4
p.m. instead of 5 p.m. Outdoor sites such as Lincoln's New Salem
will close at 4 p.m. during November through February because of
darkness. Some other sites will close at 4 p.m. because visitation
drops off dramatically in late afternoon during the winter, and
staff will use the 4 to 5 p.m. hour to maintain the site's
collections. The
state historic sites reduced their days of
operation beginning Sept. 1, 2002, as a result of budget reductions
contained in the fiscal 2003 budget enacted by the Illinois General
Assembly. Most sites are now open Wednesday through Sunday and
closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day,
Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday, Presidents Day, Columbus Day.
