[SEPT. 1, 2004]  It may be the time for an early fall season, but it's not too early to catch up on the latest book titles. Here's a sample:

"Occasions." Kate Spade, Simon & Schuster, 2004, 111 pages.

Special occasions always call for the special touch. In her new book, "Occasions," author and designer Kate Spade take a different approach to entertaining guests. According to Spade, "The emphasis is not on the perfect meal but on having the perfect time." Preparation is a key ingredient to success. Lighting, linens, flatware and glassware all contribute to a party where "laughter and conversation are encouraged and where spilled red wine on the couch is no reason to stop the music." The ultimate goal of successful entertaining? To ensure that "hospitality makes for infectious fun."

Peele's approach is based on seven basic tools for recovery: values, motivation, rewards, resources, support, maturity and higher goals. This book offers help to anyone trying to eliminate the destructive habits that are controlling their lives.

"Career Comeback." Bradley G. Richardson, Broadway Books, 2004, 319 pages.

How do you make it back to the top after losing your job? In his new book, "Career Comeback," author Bradley Richardson explains how you can overcome the emotional, social and financial stress that comes with unemployment. Bradley's eight-step process gets you back on your feet when you've been fired, laid off or your business venture has failed. Equally important in his process is finding more job satisfaction than ever before. David Bach, author of "The Automatic Millionaire," calls Richardson's book "the new road map for employees looking to protect their careers, their earnings and their sanity." The book has an indispensable section entitled "Career Comeback Resources" and includes career resources on the Web, outplacement firms and skills assessment information.
