Summer and holidays are typically peak travel times. The Department of Transportation is asking motorists to help make this a safe travel season by doing the following:

  • Give yourself more time to reach your destination by planning ahead.
  • Keep enough distance between you and the motorists ahead of you.
  • Always be prepared to stop.
  • Buckle up while traveling.
  • Don't drink and drive.
  • Don't drive while you are tired.
  • Always focus on your driving.

Remember that speed and driver distractions are the major causes of work zone crashes. Additional Illinois State Police will be out patrolling to help keep this a safe travel time. Lives will be saved by working together and obeying the rules of the road.
