URBANA -- With temperatures
cooling, leaves falling and autumn coming on, the traditions of the
season -- apples, pumpkins and fall color -- come to mind. And
up-to-date information in all three areas is only the click of a
computer mouse away on websites created by University of Illinois
Extension. |

"As families start to think about a
Halloween pumpkin or where to get the best fresh apples or plan a
trip to see beautiful fall foliage, three Extension websites can be
very helpful," said Jane Scherer, U of I Extension urban programs
specialist.
All three sites -- "Apples & More,"
"Pumpkins & More" and "The Miracle of Fall" -- are offered via
Extension's urban program resources Web page at
http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/.
"The three sites are in the 'Hort
Corner' section," said Scherer.
The "Apples
& More" site has information about apple varieties, nutrition,
recipes, apple cider, apple orchards and apple festivals.
"The location of area pumpkin farms
along with information about nutrition, recipes, and the selection
and use of pumpkins can be found on the 'Pumpkins
& More' site," Scherer said.

"The
Miracle of Fall" site has been consistently rated as one of the
top websites for information about fall color and has been singled
out by the New York Times newspaper.
"The site has regular updates on
foliage -- where the leaves are turning or are expected to turn,"
Scherer explained. "It features a live foliage camera so you can
actually see what the fall colors look like in a given area.
"Festival
and events connected with fall foliage are noted. There are also
links to various tours and fall foliage events in several states."
