[SEPT. 10, 2004]
To commemorate the third
anniversary of the attacks on our nation, the Lincoln College Museum
will be open for special hours on Saturday, Sept. 11. The public is
invited to come in at any time during this special period of
reflection from 8:47 a.m., the moment that Tower One was attacked,
to 11:55 a.m., the time President Bush announced his resolve to
"hunt down and punish those responsible for these cowardly acts."

Guests may view the permanent exhibit
dedicated to Sept. 11, including a 3-foot girder from the destroyed
Tower One, personal mementos from the Chan family of Peoria whose
son died in Tower One, a flight attendant jacket worn on Sept. 11
and a first-ever showing of a recently acquired document sent by New
York Gov. George Pataki. Pataki sent the only signed copy in
existence of the famous address he presented to the New York State
Legislature on Sept. 13, 2001. Tribute songs to the 9/11 tragedy
will augment the occasion and candles will be lit. The public is
encouraged to leave notes and letters of memories, which will become
part of the museum's permanent collection and copies of which will
be sent to a future museum collection at Ground Zero.

This time will also provide the public
the opportunity to see the temporary art exhibition "Our Country 'Tis
of Thee," a selection of historical photographs, posters and prints
from the A.G. Edwards & Sons Inc. collection. Patriotic themes are
featured, and works from Warhol, Lichtenstein and Steiglitz are
included. The public is invited to see this rare collection
assembled especially for this museum and this community and to
reflect on Sept. 11.
Regular
hours at the Lincoln College Museum are 9-4 Monday through Friday
and 1-4 on weekends. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
