[SEPT. 10, 2004]  HAVANA -- The Illinois River community of Havana will host its 31st annual Oktoberfest celebration on Sept. 10 and 11. Bratwurst and sauerkraut, beer, wine, hot dogs, and a feast of other delectable goodies will be offered in the food court, and artisans from near and far will have their goods on display all around the shady lawn in front of the Mason County Courthouse. On stage will be live music that will please all tastes, from traditional polkas to all-American country.

Highlights of the Oktoberfest include the big volksmarch parade, which opens the event at 6 p.m. Friday, and live music until midnight.

Saturday's activities begin at 9 a.m. with the running of the Polka Pace Race, a 5K walk and run along Havana's brick streets and the Illinois River. The music resumes at noon and continues again until midnight.
